The Natural Oils That Do Double Duty For Skin and Hair

If you take a closer look at the beauty products stored in your bathroom, you may notice that many of the labels list natural oils in their ingredients. While these natural oils are often added to existing products thanks to their current popularity, you don’t have to settle for products that are merely “infused” with these oils. You can buy a small bottle of the pure oil, and it will do double duty, working for both your skin and your face.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is perhaps the most popular of all the natural beauty oils today. The Argan nuts are the fruit of the Moroccan Argan tree. Argan oil is created by cold pressing the inner part of the Argan nuts.

Aragan oil can be used by any skin type. It includes ingredients like squalene, which helps keep your skin plumped up rather than allowing it to show wrinkles. While Argan oil is a superior moisturizer, it doesn’t over moisturize oily skin. It actually helps keep sebum in line and actually prevents oiliness.

How to Use It: Argan oil is so powerful that only a few drops patted into the face and neck are enough to improve skin. It can be used on hair, particularly on the ends of hair. You can also add this oil to the rest of the hair, but avoid the roots. It takes just two or three drops on your fingertips to ramp up the shine and heals split ends.

Coconut Oil

Coconuts are valued for their fruit and water already, but it is only in more recent years that coconut oil has gained popularity as a skin and hair treatment. Coconut oil, which is cold pressed from the fruit, is generally less expensive and more dense than Argan oil.

Coconut oil is highly nourishing and is especially adept at moving deeply into the skin. It can be used by people with any skin type, but may be especially helpful for people with dry skin and hair. If you keep coconut oil for cooking, you can even use that same oil for your skin and hair.

How to Use It: Coconut oil is so nourishing that you need only a couple of drops for your whole face in most cases. Pat it into the skin lightly, focusing on areas where your skin has fine lines or wrinkles. For hair, rub coconut oil into the ends to moisturize dry hair and improve overall hair condition.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil comes from the Jojoba plant, specifically from its seeds. This plant is found in the southwestern U.S. and in Mexico.

Jojoba oil contains ingredients that are very similar to the natural sebum that healthy skin produces. This oil is especially adept at plumping up the skin to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It is highly moisturizing, and can be used by people with any skin type.

How to Use It: Jojoba oil, like both Argan and coconut oil, is very effective in even tiny amounts. For face, use a couple of drops in areas where fine lines and wrinkles are a concern. Use the oil in increments of a couple of drops at a time to coat the ends of your hair for shiny and moisturized hair.
