About the Liposuction Procedure: What to Expect

At Sono Bello, we’re dedicated to making our patients feel as comfortable and confident as possible going into their liposuction procedure. To help you prep for your upcoming appointment – and hopefully calm any remaining concerns you have – we’re going to outline all the steps involved in a typical Sono Bello procedure.

Step 1: Getting Settled

When you arrive at our facility, a team of receptionists, nurses and doctors will give you everything you need to get situated. If you need to take some time alone to get mentally prepared, that’s totally fine. If you need a pep talk from one of our team members, we’d be more than happy to provide one. Some of our patients like to play their own music in the operating room to make them feel comfortable. Whatever it takes to get you in the right headspace, we’ve got you covered.

Step 2: Preparing for Liposuction

You will have to get undressed. You probably knew that. But it is worth mentioning. We will provide you with clean hospital garments once your street clothes and accessories have been removed. The doctor will gently draw on your skin with a marker to indicate where the insertion points will be. This is done both for their own preparation and to make sure that everybody is on the same page going into the surgery. Once you’re all settled in, a physician will administer a minimal, local anesthesia to the areas of treatment. This anesthesia is called “tumescent fluid.” It is a solution to which lidocaine and epinephrine, a vasoconstrictor, to minimize blood loss have been added. This fluid is injected into the targeted areas at the start of the operation. Our patients remain awake throughout their procedure. Because the surgery is minimally invasive, it is not necessary for you to be put completely to sleep. In fact, it’s better for you to be awake so you can communicate with your physician to help them give you the best possible results. If you are feeling anxious about being awake during the surgery, we can provide you with medications to ease your stress.

Step 3: The Transformation Begins

Small incisions are made into the areas where fat is to be removed. Then, our surgeons use power-assisted microcannulas (miniature tubes) and micro-lasers to gently disrupt and then permanently remove fat cells from your body. The length of the operation depends on what area of your body is being worked on and the scope of the procedure – or, in other words, how much fat is being removed. All our operations are uniquely tailored to the patient’s individual needs. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all liposuction procedure.

Step 4: Healing and Recovery

After your surgery is completed, the areas of your body where the fat was removed will be firmly wrapped in a protective garment to reduce swelling and promote healing. We understand that you’ll be eager to get out and show off your newly transformed body. However, before you can resume your normal life, it’s important to carefully follow our post-operation instructions exactly to ensure that everything heals properly. It typically takes patients a couple of days to physically recover, less than a week for swelling to go down, and about 15 days to fully heal. For a more comprehensive explanation of the Liposuction recovery process, read Dr. Chung’s insightful article on the subject.

Key Takeaways

Sono Bello liposuction surgery is minimally invasive. It is proven safe and even preferable for you to remain awake during the operation. Your surgeon will make small incisions in the targeted areas of your body where excess fat deposits are to be removed. Then, small metal tubes powered by the latest technology and assisted by lasers are used to disrupt and permanently remove unwanted fat cells. After your surgery is over, it will take a few days for you to physically recover, a couple of weeks for your skin to fully heal, and several months for you to see the final results. It is crucial that you follow our post-operation instructions closely for optimum results and seamless recovery.
